Stuffed Cabbage Rolls Recipe

Ingredients:

1 large head of cabbage

2 lbs ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)

1 cup uncooked white rice

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce

1/2 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for extra flavor)

1-2 tbsp olive oil

Optional garnish: fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Cabbage:

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Core the cabbage, then place it in the boiling water for a few minutes until the outer leaves are soft and can be easily peeled away.

Carefully remove about 12-15 cabbage leaves, set aside, and pat them dry with a paper towel.

2. Prepare the Filling:

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, rice, chopped onion, garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well combined.

3. Assemble the Rolls:

Place a cabbage leaf on a clean surface. Add about 2-3 tablespoons of the meat mixture at the base of the leaf. Roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides as you go to keep the filling inside. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.

4. Prepare the Sauce:

In a large skillet or pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes and beef broth, stirring to combine. Season with a bit of salt and pepper. Simmer for a few minutes.

5. Cook the Cabbage Rolls:

Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the sauce. Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the rice and meat are fully cooked. Spoon sauce over the rolls occasionally as they cook.

6. Serve:

Carefully remove the cabbage rolls from the pot and serve with extra sauce. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Enjoy your stuffed cabbage rolls! They pair nicely with a slice of buttered bread or a side salad. Let me know if you give these a try!
