Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy
Ingredients
For the Hamburger Steaks:
1 lb ground beef (or substitute with ground turkey or chicken if desired)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp oil for frying
For the Onion Gravy:
1 large onion, sliced
2 cups beef broth (or chicken broth if preferred)
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp flour (optional, to thicken the gravy)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp butter or oil for frying
Instructions
1. Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Mix until well combined, then form into 4 patties.
2. Cook the Hamburger Steaks:
Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the oil.
Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until they’re browned and cooked through.
Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
3. Make the Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, add a bit more oil or butter if needed, then add the sliced onions.
Cook over medium heat until the onions are caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
Sprinkle in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly (optional if you prefer a thicker gravy).
Add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine.
Season with salt and pepper to taste and let the gravy simmer for about 5 minutes until it thickens.
4. Combine and Serve:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon the gravy over them, and let everything cook together for 2-3 minutes.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dish. Enjoy!
